Let’s hope the roof isn’t leakin’ today @The Mecca.
As of 2:40 p.m. EST, I just spoke w/a ticket office employee. I hope she’s paid decent OT this weekend…unreal.
Based upon her latest report from security (she’s unable to see out any windows) the lines were already half-way around downtown Bangor!
That’ll wake up the locals, huh?
Cabin Fever Reliever, indeedy.
The rally starts at 4:30 p.m.
Fire code capacity is 5,000 people; and no overflow room is planned.
I’d never make it in time to get through the gate!
People were lined up when she arrived at work (9:30 a.m.); and they started letting folks in early-at 1:30 p.m. (instead of 2:30 p.m.).
The “line” is all the way down Dutton St., up Main St., and waaaaaaaaaaaaay up onto Buck St.
…and they aren’t in “single file,” by any stretch of the imagination.
She’s receiving incessant phone calls (I thanked her profusely, as I anticipated that when I called) from folks on their cell phones, who are in said “line.”
Yowza.
I don’t think that lil’ ol Bangor, Maine has ever witnessed such drama.
…in the “whitest state in the nation,” no less.
Too funny.
Not for a political rally; and certainly not during February in caucus season. No dice.
What candidates in a pinch will do for a piddly 24 delegates, huh?
Will voters actually turn out to caucus tomorrow, is anyone’s guess.
TV stations are making mucho $$ on ad buys–the first ads for Hillary ran last night; however, Obama’s have run since last week.
He had five field organizers on the ground; whereas, the Ms. Presumptive [NOT] has nuthin’.
We have great long-term memory recall here in Maine, Hillary (your husband’s triangulation on NAFTA and CAFTA aren’t appreciated). Thanks for ruining our scant remaining manufacturing sector.
I guess we Mainiacs are merely afterthoughts to Hillary…the Clintons and their so-called surrogates never stumped here this hard during “Big Dog’s” two Presidential campaigns (even after he received both national Democratic convention nomination nods).
Hillary’s campaign has been robocalling people to death (who are not her supporters); and they aren’t the least bit happy.
Comment from “contrarian” U/Maine student, who was pissed off that he couldn’t use the rec center:
From my observations:
1: The Rec Center was actually closed today until noon for gym goers, God forbid anyone wants to work out when a presidential candidate is here. This was posted on the Student Recreation website
2: I arrived a little after noontime to work out and was able to bypass the road blocks and get pretty decent parking at the rec center; actually in the lot reserved for rec center users which was ultimately bare except for some gym goers and the Hill-mobile. I [was] surprised security was so lax.
Only one cop was patrolling the parking lot and he stopped and asked me where I was going and told me the gym was still closed then told me to get to the other side of the barricades…ok officer.
Gym still didn’t open until about noon-thirty. They had to make sure Hillary was out of the building bahhhhhhhhh.
3: My last point; for the amount of chairs that they had when I went in was the same amount or less of the number of seats in any of the bigger lecture halls. Namely 137 Bennett, or 100 Nutting. The chairs didn’t even go all the way to the end of the basketball courts. The main stage was right in front of another stage in front of the indoor hockey/soccer area and basically there was seating filling up all of the area in the basketball courts except for the last full court. So those for those hundred of people that got turned away there was plenty of room. Not too mention every sign I saw endorsing Hillary read “New Hampshire for Hillary Clinton”
makes me want to vote for her if I was a democrat
Enough of the Clintons…we’d appreciate some privacy up here!
Especially activists, who want nothing to do with continued DLC triangulation (McCain is her buddy–good grief).
Nor have Maine women benefitted from bullshit “welfare deform.”
No self-professed “feminist” supports federally subsidized racism and misogyny (aka “ending welfare as we know it”).
Among those who ardently and eloquently opposed the Clinton “welfare reform” bill was Marian Wright Edelman. Her husband, Peter Edelman, quit his high-level job at the Department of Health and Human Services in protest when Bill Clinton signed the bill. He was deeply upset about what the legislation would do to helpless children.
Bullshit.
Low income Maine women on TANF don’t have time (or the luxury) in their lives to become “misty-eyed” at the least little offensive sexist quip (and they’re significantly more “tired” all the time than are you). All that “Five Sisters” Wellesley education down the crapper.
In addition, it doesn’t take thirty-five years for any sixty year old Second Wave feminist to “find her voice.”
Stop insulting feminism for your own political expedience, Hillary.
Since when is single parenting not considered a “countable work activity?”
You are turning the clock back centuries; and we can’t afford it.
Unenrolled voters tomorrow need to be at least 45 min. early; and they may not have time to get registered.
Don’t forget to bring appropriate photo ID and proof of residency status (esp. inexperienced young voters, those who have moved since the last time they voted, are new voters, or are unenrolled voters).
I strongly suggest that folks read the damned rules before attending.
Moreover–be outrageously patient tomorrow; and do not leave your caucus until the final delegate tally has been verified; and the caucus is officially adjourned.
It’s only a few hrs. out of your life every four yrs.
Suck it up; and stop complaining.
Especially bloggers (who “live” online, nearly 12-24-365); and people who watch thousands of hours of boob tube each year.
Information is powerful stuff.
Use your “voices” tomorrow.
CD#2 is jammin’, for sure.
There’s no way I’d make it in…even if I drove over & was outrageously patient.
Wow.
This is why Hillary was nervous, folks–and wanted a “debate.”
She slapped the U/Maine event together (they changed the time constantly), so it’s anyone’s guess as to which of those attendees will actually caucus for her tomorrow, vs. those who were simply curious.
The TV local noon news showed a lot of young males (shocking) in the front row; however, I didn’t get a jist of whether it was faculty administration, or retirees in the audience.
On-campus student feedback thus far is not apparent on U/Maine’s intranet…they simply aren’t talking.
Those who work out in the rec center on Saturday mornings were upset that they couldn’t get in–too much security–even once the event had concluded.
Venue envy…versus 1,500 in Orono, at U/Maine’s overpriced $25M+ rec center.
Go, Obama!
There’s really a Maine for Obama which exists beyond Cumberland county & freakin’ Portland.
It’s about time!
WLBZ2 has fairly decent online coverage thus far.
More later.
